Monochrome Mondays

Well we are just a few days away from March now, which is a sure sign of spring here. Speaking of signs (what a clever transition huh?), I have a thing for old signs like this one. No matter where you go in the city, you inevitably come across an old building that has a faded sign like this painted on the building itself. This particular one is around the corner from our apartment, and the building does not contain an Iron Works anymore. I’m not quite sure what is there actually, but whatever is there, I’m glad that the old sign remains in place for me to take photos of and preserve. So much changes in this world today, and I think that is why I like to seek out shots like this.

  1. I absolutely love buildings with faded paintwork. THere’s one in Dublin called Boland’s Mills and they’re renovating it at the moment. I’m terrified they’re going to clean off all sign of its past. I would hate that.

    Great photo!

    1. Thanks so much Quinn. I love old advertisements too, and years ago, before I really carried my camera around all the time, they knocked a building down, revealing a terrific old ad for something. The ad was probably 50 years old and was in great shape because it had been blocked by another building. Sadly I think it was removed, and I missed my chance, so I vowed to take as many as I can find myself. I understand things change, but to me they are a form of art in many ways, and I hate to see them go. Thanks so much for the comment!
